2 Habits that Will Help you Succeed and Maintain Focus

There are 2 habits that will help you succeed and maintain an incredibly optimistic abundance-focused view of the future. Sometimes we laugh about those who talk about the power of positive thinking – but it works. When we start our day negatively, our day usually doesn’t turn out very well, we struggle through it with low and negative energy, and we don’t leave the type of life-changing impact on others that we want to. Sometimes we laugh about those who talk about the power of positive thinking – but it works. When we start our day negatively, our day usually doesn’t turn out very well, we struggle through it with low and negative energy, and we don’t leave the type of life-changing impact on others that we want to. When we start positively, it sets the tone for a successful day, keeps us energetic and motivated, and affects and infects others with the same positive mentality.

Begin Each Day with Gratitude

The first habit is to begin each day with gratitude and maintain this throughout the day. When you wake up or as you drive to work, focus on one thing that you are thankful for. Think about something or someone in your life that you are grateful for and express thanks audibly. Maybe, even record it in your Notes on your smartphone so you can keep track of all that you are thankful for.

List 3 Wins from Your Day

The second habit is at the end of your day, list 3 wins from your day. They don’t have to be anything earth-shattering. They can be simple little wins, or they can be big wins. The point is to keep moving in a positive direction. Instead of focusing on negative thoughts and the setbacks, disappointments, and obstacles that we all face, teach your brain to look for and focus on the small positive wins that kickstart your motivation and productivity. What you focus on, you become.

For example, this morning I am grateful for a new friend I made this last week. We really hit it off, share many common interests including our faith, spec ops, and martial arts/h2h, and I can tell he will be a long-term friend. Three wins I had yesterday – I got this email written, I dictated and signed off on all the charts and orders in my queue from yesterday, and I prepped for a meeting I have this afternoon.

Dan Sullivan, my mentor/coach, and founder of The Strategic Coach, developed a free award-winning smartphone app that keeps track of your wins and helps keep you in a positive mindset. It’s called WinStreak and you can download it here.
